When Is It The Right Time To Change Your Mattress?

When Is It The Right Time To Change Your Mattress?

There are many good reasons to change mattresses. The main one is to invest in a better quality mattress. In this case, it is better to make a compromise, and then buy the mattress of your dreams, after all we spend 26 years of our life sleeping.

Another reason is the health and well-being aspect. If you do not maintain your mattress well enough or if you leave your pets on it, the risk of contracting allergies increases. So be careful if you experience any unknown symptoms when you go to bed.

Finally: wear and tear. The resilience of a mattress is not eternal. If your sleeping experience becomes worse, it's time to turn to a new mattress. We are to help you understand the signs.

Changing mattresses: the physical signs

Your don’t feel as comfortable on your mattress? So, when should you change your mattress?

Waking up in pain

Pain is the first alarming sign that it's time to change your mattress. If you have trouble finding a position during the night and you have back, neck or kidneys aches when you get up, this is certainly caused by a change in density or a sagging of your mattress, it is so time to change the mattress. The comfort no longer suits you and no longer allows you to enjoy restful nights.

Allergic signs

If for some time, you have noticed that you have allergic reactions in your bedroom, it is possible that your mattress might be the cause. Indeed, even a very well ventilated mattress is the perfect nest for dust mites. They proliferate when the humidity is high and the temperature between 20 and 30 degrees. However, every night the human body loses about 30 cl of water while sleeping. This natural reaction can both contribute to the development of dust mites and also alter the fabric over time.

Even if it is possible to reduce this effect by regularly vacuuming the mattress or by opting for a removable mattress, no solution is 100% effective and changing the mattress becomes inevitable. You can also turn to an anti-dust mite mattress.

Changing mattresses: the visible signs

A collapsing foam

The visible sign of mattress use is the foam collapsing, often accompanied by a deterioration of the fabric. This is a normal reaction of materials over time, and it often leads to the uncomfortable  feeling from the slats or springs in your back.

Check the mattress support

If you compare the support of the foot side of your mattress with the side you usually use, you will see that the firmness is not the same, if this side is too firm, this means that your mattress has lost its support and that it is necessary to change it.

How long can you keep your mattress?

All of these signs usually appear after 10 years of use. Indeed, the lifespan of a mattress (in sufficient condition) does not exceed 15 years, regardless of whether it is a latex or spring mattress. Then you have to change it. If you are in this situation, we advise you to buy new bedding at the same time, to be able to enjoy truly optimal comfort. Duvet, pillow, sheet... change everything to experience an enhanced quality of sleep.

We are often reluctant to change mattresses. Whether for reasons of emotional attachment (we spend a good part of our life on it), habit (physical discomfort and noise from the mattress become normal), or budget (a quality mattress is expensive), we can hesitate for a long time. However, changing the mattress is essential for your health, the quality of your sleep and that of your partner.
